After the mad rush of March and the dealers trying to sell as many new cars as possible to achieve their targets from their respective manufacturers, April presents a great opportunity for consumers to snap up a deal.
Dealers will be inundated with different types of used car stock, part exchanges and nearly new “Pre Registered” cars. If you are unfamiliar with Pre Reg cars, here is a brief explanation.
In order for the dealer to achieve his objective, he will need to sell/register an amount of new cars in March. Once hitting this objective, the manufacturer will pay the dealer an amount of “volume bonus”. This can be significant! Lots of dealers will use this money to effectively transact all business for the period, some will save it as profit, some may apportion it to further stock sales.
To ensure hitting this stretching target, lots of dealers will Pre Reg new cars, in a company name (usually the dealers own) thus hitting their new car objective. They can then sell the Pre Reg cars (effectively now a used car as it has one owner, but has done zero miles), at big discounts. For dealers with lots of these cars in stock, there is one simple goal, get them sold quickly! They cost money, the dealer may have to borrow that money in order to hold them in stock and they compete directly with the new cars they are trying to sell in the next campaign period.
Don’t be shy of Pre Reg cars, they can represent excellent value for money!!
